WELCOME TO PACK 139!
Connecting Families Together
Cub Scouts Pack 139 is a vibrant, family-centered Scouting community based in South Pasadena, welcoming boys and girls from kindergarten through 5th grade into a world of adventure, learning, and connection. While many of our Scouts attend Monterey Hills Elementary, we proudly welcome families from all schools and backgrounds, because we believe Scouting should be inclusive, accessible, and enriching for every child. Through hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and meaningful service projects, our Scouts build confidence, character, and essential life skills that last a lifetime. Whether they’re hiking local trails, crafting pinewood derby cars, discovering the wonders of nature, or giving back to the community, every experience is designed to spark curiosity and foster growth. But the magic of Pack 139 doesn’t stop with the Scouts—it extends to the entire family. Parents often find lasting friendships and joyful connection through Pack events, from volunteering at meetings and cheering on their kids to joining in on campouts and celebrations. Our Pack is powered entirely by dedicated volunteers whose passion and commitment create a welcoming, supportive environment where every child can thrive. Whether you’re brand new to Scouting or returning for another chapter, there’s a place for you in Pack 139, and we can’t wait to welcome you into our community.

What is a Den?
In Cub Scouts, each child is part of a den—a small group of Scouts in the same grade and rank. Dens meet 1–2 times per month for fun, hands-on “adventures” that help Scouts earn badges and advance in rank. Meetings are active, age-appropriate, and led by trained volunteer parents. During den meetings, Scouts go on short hikes, work on crafts, complete service projects, play games, or take field trips. They learn by doing—building confidence, character, and friendships along the way. Dens sometimes join with others for larger Pack events. Each den focuses on skills and activities suited to their grade level: Kindergarten – Lion Den 1st Grade – Tiger Den 2nd Grade – Wolf Den 3rd Grade – Bear Den 4th Grade – Webelos 5th Grade – Arrow of Light After Cub Scouts, kids can move into Scouts BSA starting in 6th grade (around age 11).
Scout Knowledge
The Scout Oath, Scout Law, and Cub Scout Motto are recited by Scouts at every Pack meeting. They’re more than just words—they’re guiding principles that shape character, build community, and reinforce the values of Scouting. By practicing and learning them, Scouts gain confidence in their role and deepen their understanding of what it means to be trustworthy, helpful, and kind. Regular repetition helps these values become second nature, both in meetings and in everyday life. Encourage your Scout to review these at home. A few minutes of practice each week can make Pack meetings more meaningful and help them feel proud of what they stand for. Scout Oath On my honor, I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. Scout Law A Scout is: Trustworthy Loyal Helpful Friendly Courteous Kind Obedient Cheerful Thrifty Brave Clean Reverent Cub Scout Motto Do Your Best

Uniform Guidelines
Cub Scouts are expected to wear the full field uniform (also called the “Class A” uniform) to Pack meetings, den meetings, and official events. Wearing the uniform builds pride, unity, and a sense of belonging. Required Uniform Items (by rank): Official Cub Scout shirt (navy blue for kindergarten - 3rd grade and tan for 4th – 5th grade) Rank-specific neckerchief and slide. Official Cub Scout hat (matches rank) Belt (used to display adventure loops) Pants or shorts — either official uniform bottoms or plain dark navy blue (no logos or designs) Closed-toe shoes suitable for activities Each Scout will receive a red Pack 139 T-shirt to wear during hikes, campouts, and other active events. Uniforms can be purchased online (www.scoutshop.org) or in person at your local Scout Shop (www.scoutshop.org/storelocator) Local Scout Shops are especially helpful—they have knowledgeable staff who can guide you and even sew on patches for a small fee, making the process quick and easy.
